High Court Hears Ticket Tax Case
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court has agreed to hear a case over an unfavorable tax ruling for the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra.
The case dates back to 1997, when the Orchestra filed a tax return claiming a refund of more than $719,000 the group paid in sales taxes on concert tickets, according to the local Journal Sentinel.
While the Orchestra claimed its concerts were educational and charitable and therefore exempt from taxation, a state tax commission disagreed.
