Chris Brown Doesn’t Remember Beating Rihanna
The 20-year-old singer was accused of punching Rihanna, 21, biting her, putting her in a headlock and threatening to kill her during an argument while driving home from Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy Awards party, according to detective’s notes from the scene of the assault.
“When I look at it now, it’s just like, wow, like, I can’t — I can’t believe that — that actually happened,” Brown told King about looking at TMZ’s shocking photo of a bruised and bloodied Rihanna, which was thought to be leaked from the Los Angeles Police Department.
“First of all, it’s not who I am as a person. And that’s not who I promised everyone of being. When I look at the police reports or I hear the police reports, I don’t know what to think,” Brown said, according to Access Hollywood.
King asked, “Do you remember doing it?”
Brown replied, “No.”
Brown conducted the interview, which is set to air Wednesday night on CNN’s “Larry King Live” show, along with his mother Joyce Hawkins and his attorney Mark Geragos.
Hawkins, herself a domestic violence victim, said she was “totally shocked, totally upset” about the incident.
“Chris has never ever been a violent person … even in high school,” she said.
Hawkins said her husband – and Brown’s stepfather – was abusive.
“I used to be scared to go to bed,” Brown said, according to CNN, although he explained he wasn’t blaming his stepfather for his attack against Rihanna.
“Nobody taught us how to love one another. Nobody taught us a book on how to — how to control our emotions or our anger. I wish I could have changed that night.”
Brown pleaded guilty in June to one count of felony assault against his fellow pop singer and was sentenced last week with five years of probation and six months of community labor. He must also attend 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling.
“Everything comes with consequences,” Brown said, according to CNN. “They want me to pick up trash [and] remove graffiti. I’m a hard worker. It’s something I’m willing to do.”
Not only did he say he didn’t remember beating up Rihanna – Brown also admitted that he’s still in love with the singer/face of Cover Girl cosmetics.
“I never fell out of love with her,” Brown told People magazine in an interview that will be published in an issue released on Friday. “That just wouldn’t go away.”
Brown must stay at least 100 yards away Rihanna during his five year probation, except at industry events where they must maintain a distance of 10 yards.
