Paula Abdul Is Goin’ To Vegas

Over the weekend the former “American Idol” judge told Access Hollywood’s Shaun Robinson that the rumors were true but that she couldn’t totally spill the beans – yet.

“That will be more… really announced later, when everything’s worked [out]. It’s going to happen, but the details have yet to be ironed out,” Abdul said.

The Las Vegas-Review Journal reports that an Abdul song-and-dance show has been in development for several years.

Earlier this month Abdul met with representatives with the Las Vegas Hilton and it’s rumored that in June she discussed a deal with The Venetian about sharing Wayne Brady’s theatre. Another rumor was that Abdul was considering a show at Wynn Las Vegas’ Danny Gans Theatre.

Three years ago Abdul was working out a deal for a variety show at the Silverton Hotel before plans fell through, according to the Journal. Abdul was reportedly going to be the entertainment director and choreographer at the hotel.

A Paula Abdul Las Vegas song-and-dance show actually kind of makes sense. Maybe she’s tired of judging other performances and wants to be the one on stage, in the spotlight once again. After performing her new single “I’m Just Here for the Music” on the May 6 “Idol” results show, Abdul proved that she still knows a thing or two about choreography and still has the moves left over from her Dallas Cowgirl days. And what crowd wouldn’t want to sing and dance along with her old hits like “Straight Up” and “Forever Your Girl.”

In the meantime, Abdul is guest starring as courtroom judge named Paula Abdul on Lifetime’s “Drop Dead Diva.” She told TV Guide magazine that she’s “shot two episodes of this show (airing Sept. 13 and Oct. 11) in a recurring role and they’re talking about me doing the second season premiere episode.”

She is also set to host this year’s “VH1 Divas.” The show will be broadcast live on Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. EST and feature performances by former “Idols” Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks and Jennifer Hudson, in addition to Miley Cyrus, Adele and Leona Lewis.

And what about the opportunity to join “So You Think You Can Dance”?

“Nigel [Lythgoe, SYTYCD creator/executive producer/judge] has offered… I don’t know yet,” Abdul told Access Hollywood. “I’m a big fan of the show. It’s fantastic, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I maybe came in and guest judged, but I don’t know the details of any of that.”

Abdul is also looking into hosting her own talk show.

She told TV Guide that “since there is talk about me possibly doing one I don’t want to give the goodies away. I’d be Paula. It would be a lot of fun variety with a ton of unexpected stuff and tributes to everyday people getting their big chance.”

Abdul announced through her Twitter account Aug. 4 that she wouldn’t be returning to the ninth season of “Idol,” writing that, “I hope you understand I can only return to Idol if the deal is fair.”

The Los Angeles Times previously reported that Abdul’s current annual salary was around $4 million. She had reportedly initially asked for a raise as much as $20 million but then lowered the request to $12 million. TMZ.com reported the figure was more like $10 million.

When TV Guide asked if there was anything “Idol” could do to win her back, Abdul said, “That’s a hard question to answer right now. I mean, I don’t think I can answer that right now.”

When asked whether if was just about the money, here’s what she said:

“It’s never …I stand on principle where many people stand on money. I’m a hard-working artist. I’ve lasted in this business for 23 years. And you can’t do that unless you are good at what you do. I believe in myself and you have to have your own self respect.”
