Hot Time For Movies
There’s no sign of a slump at the movies this summer, with the season’s flicks setting a domestic box-office record for the highest-grossing summer ever.
While box-office revenues for summer ’09 have topped $4.17 billion – prior to Labor Day weekend expectations that could add $100 million more – the last comparable year was the 2007 season that grossed $4.16 billion, according to Variety.
Top performers included the latest installments in the “Transformers” and “Harry Potter” series, which pulled $399.4 million and $294.3 million, respectively, as well as “Up,” with $289.6 million, $270.2 million for “The Hangover” and $256.7 million for “Star Trek,” the mag said.
