Nirvana’s Aug. 30,1992 headlining set at the U.K.’s Reading Festival was voted the band’s “#1 Greatest Moment” by fans in an NME poll and earned the top nod from Kerrang! magazine’s compilation of “100 Gigs That Shook The World.”

Kerrang! explained that, “Nirvana headlining at Reading in 1992 was something you had to see, and if you didn’t see it then it was something you pretended you saw.”

The set began with Cobain being rolled out on stage in a wheelchair and then performing the entire show in a white hospital gown.

Nivana showed off tunes from the band’s 1989 debut album, almost the entire Nevermind tracklist and three as yet unrecorded songs – “tourette’s,” “All Apologies,” and “Dumb” – which would appear on the band’s third and final studio album, In Utero, two years later.

The set also included several songs – “Aneurysm,” “Been A Son” and “Silver” –that were included on the Incesticide compilation album later that year.

Finally, the legendary performance featured two covers, “The Money Will Roll Right In” by Fang and “D-7” by The Wipers.

“Nirvana Live At Reading,” will be released Nov. 3 in a limited edition CD+DVD Deluxe Edition as well as individual DVDs and CDs.  A 2 LP version is set for release Nov. 17.

The DVD, the only version of the Reading performance that is under the band’s supervision, has been sourced from the original, multi-track masters and mixed in 5.1 surround sound, according to a press release.

And although it may seem wrong to force Cobain’s ratty cardigan-clad avatar to belt out Bon Jovi, the good news is that “Guitar Hero 5” includes Nirvana’s hit “Smells Like Teen Spirit” as well as a live version of ‘Lithium” from the 1992 Reading festival.

In addition to Cobain, “GH5” unlockable characters include Carlos Santana, Johnny Cash, Shirley Manson of Garbage and Matt Bellamy of Muse.
