TV On The Radio Taking A Break
During the past year TVOTR has toured everywhere from the U.S. to the U.K. and Europe to Canada to Australia.
After playing Outside Lands Festival in San Francisco last Saturday, frontman Tunde Adebimpe revealed the band’s big plans to take a break off the road.
“This was the last show for us, for a while,” he told MTV. “We’ve decided to take, well, the going theory is to take about a year off, because you have to go and live a life and change things up.”
Adebimpe explained that he and his bandmates are looking forward to having a little more personal space as opposed to the confirmed quarters of a tour bus.
“We’ve been on tour for almost a year now, and towards the end of the year, you do end up getting things out during the show, subliminally, that you can’t get out with someone on a bus. Because you can say something to someone on the bus, and then after you’ve let it out, you realize you’ve got six hours sitting across from that person. Like, ‘Remember when I called you a d— a while ago? That was just, uh, caffeine and all sorts of sleep depravation talking, and I really didn’t mean it, and I hope you don’t take it to heart, even though I can tell that you are because you’re not talking to me.’ It’s basic cabin fever.”
Adebimpe told MTV the hiatus will also be a good chance for the band members to pursue their own personal projects.
“The funny thing about this band is that I feel like everyone’s amazed that we’re on tour, and that we’re even a band. Because, if you’d asked all four of us six years ago if we’d want to be in a band, unanimously, it would be like, ‘Well maybe for three weeks, yeah.’ It’s great we’ve been able to do it for so long, but everyone’s kind of got other projects they want to tend to.”
Guitarist/singer Malone is touring North America this September under the name Rain Machine.
The tour kicks off Sept. 21 at Bell House in New York with dates through an Oct. 25 show at Black Cat in Washington D.C.
He’s also playing shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Atlanta, Detroit, Toronto and Philadelphia.
Rain Machine’s self-titled debut album hits stores Sept. 22 on Anti Records. Check out the tracks “Give Blood” and “Smiling Black Faces” on his MySpace page.
Adebimpe recently collaborated on a song with Massive Attack and producer-guitarist Dave Sitek is lending a helping hand on the production for albums from Pink Noise and Wale.
