Sonic Youth Reschedules Tour, Cancels Austin City Limits

Sonic Youth has been forced to reschedule its upcoming Southwest tour, including canceling its Oct. 4 performance at this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival, because guitarist Lee Ranaldo fractured his left wrist.

The alternative band made the announcement on its Web site earlier today, explaining that, “Lee fractured his wrist while playing tennis. Please join us in wishing him a quick and thorough recovery.”

Sept. 25’s show at Fox Theatre Pomona in Pomona, Calif., has been rescheduled for Jan. 8. Sept. 28’s show at San Diego’s House of Blues will now take place Jan. 7. Sept. 29’s show at Los Angeles’ The Wiltern will take place Jan. 9.

Oct. 1’s show at The Marquee in Tempe, Ariz., has been rescheduled for Jan. 5 and Oct. 2’s show at Rialto Theatre in Tuscon, Ariz., will be held Jan. 4.

In addition to canceling the band’s slot at Austin City Limits, Sonic Youth will also not be rescheduling its Sept. 26 show at the Arlington Theatre in Santa Barbara, Calif.

Refunds for the Santa Barbara show will be available at the point of purchase.

Prior to playing the rescheduled Southwest shows, Sonic Youth has shows lined up in Berlin, London and Paris.

Nov. 7 the band plays the Planeta Terra Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Dec. 5 Sonic Youth takes part in All Tomorrow’s in Minehead, U.K.

There’s also a few East Coast gigs lined up. The band joins Dinosaur Jr. for a Nov. 21 show at New York’s Terminal 5 and then performs two nights at Boston’s Wilbur Theatre Nov. 22-23.
