West’s Apology Hat Trick
Swift was accepting the VMA for best female video when West suddenly appeared onstage, snatched the mic from the young country star and said Beyoncé
should have won the moonman.
West blogged his first “I’m sorry” shortly after the MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. His second apology came in the form of a statement released Monday morning.
Evidently twice wasn’t nice enough for West. Although he was already scheduled to appear on the debut of NBC’s “The Jay Leno Show” – performing with Jay-Z and Rihanna on the latter’s song “Run This Town,” West asked for some time on the program to apologize for his actions, saying, “It was rude, period.”
West answered with a “yes” when Leno asked the singer if he thought his mother would have lectured him. Donda West died in 2007 of complications from cosmetic surgery.
Said West:
“So many celebrities, they never take the time off. I’ve never taken the time off to really – you know, just music after music and tour after tour. I’m just ashamed that my hurt caused someone else’s hurt. My dream of what awards shows are supposed to be, ‘cause, and I don’t try to justify it because I was just in the wrong. That’s period. But I need to, after this, take some time off and just analyze how I’m going to make it through the rest of this life, how I’m going to improve.”
West also said he hopes to apologize to Swift in person.
Leno didn’t wait for West to appear on the show before referencing West’s latest example of bad manners. During his opening monologue, Leno said President Obama had invited the singer and Swift to the White House for a “root beer summit.”
As to taking time off to reflect about his life, West may have to fast track that particular plan of action. He kicks off his tour with Lady Gaga in Phoenix Nov. 10.
