The documentary started out as a way to chronicle the making of Jack Mannequin’s debut album but turned into so much more after McMahon was diagnosed with leukemia in May 2005, three months before the album was released.

Viewers will get to see McMahon recording and releasing Everything in Transit, his breakup with the love of his life and his battle with cancer – which he would ultimately beat – as he copes with spinal taps, radiation and hair loss.

Music and the singer’s battle with cancer are woven together – McMahon was diagnosed with cancer the day he finished mastering the last track on the new album. In another strange twist of fate, Everything in Transit was released on Aug. 23, 2005, the same day McMahon received a transfusion of stem cells from his sister Katie.

McMahon, who started Jack’s Mannequin as a side project to Something Corporate, recorded the video on a DV camera given to him by Sire Records in order to document the album’s process. The film was directed by filmmakers Cory Moss and Josh Morrisroe and narrated by Tommy Lee, who played drums on Everything in Transit.

The film is set for release Nov. 3 on DVD and digital download on iTunes. It is currently available for pre-order from Jack’s Mannequin’s Web site for $29.99. Fans that pre-order “Dear Jack” will also receive a previously unreleased track, “Swim (Music Box)” and an exclusive movie lithograph poster.

If you can’t wait to watch the documentary, you can check out the film next month at three screenings for fans and press. The documentary will be shown at the Landmark Theatre in Chicago Oct. 8, the IFC Theatre in New York City Oct. 22 and an another yet to be confirmed theatre location in Los Angeles Oct. 28.

McMahon’s solo tour kicks off Oct. 4 at Daniels Hall in Denver and wraps up Oct. 29 at Troubadour in West Hollywood, Calif.

Additional dates include Lakeshore Theatre in Chicago (Oct. 7), Arts at the Armory in Somerville, Mass. (Oct. 14), Sixth & I Synagogue in Washington, D.C. (Oct. 18) and Swedish American Hall in San Francisco (Oct. 25).
