Hoots & Hellmouth Taking Its Show To The Farm

If you’ve ever checked out Hoots & Hellmouth’s Web site you know the guys are big-time supporters of an environmentally-friendly, pro-community lifestyle. The indie folk/roots band is putting its fall tour where its mouth is by performing at a number of unique venues that put the food in Americans’ mouths – local farms in Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.

The Harvest Tour kicked off Sept. 10 at Zenos in State College, Pa., and wraps up Dec. 19 at Purple Fiddle in Thomas, W.Va.

Tonight Hoots & Hellmouth play Bristol Rhythm & Roots Reunion in Bristol, Tenn. Additional stops include Beacon Pub in Swannanoa, N.C. (Sept. 22), Stubb’s Bar-B-Q in Austin, Texas (Oct. 17), The Casbah in San Diego (Oct. 26) and Mercury Lounge in New York (Nov. 16).

The band will be playing seven farm shows Sept. 26 through Oct. 6 with the goal of bringing attention to local-sustainable initiatives such as community supported agriculture (CSAs) and local farmer’s markets.

Three of the events are open to the general public: Oct. 3’s show at the Farm School at Snipes in Morrisville, Pa., Oct. 4’s show at The Lands at Hillside Farms in Shavertown, Pa., and Oct. 6’s gig at the farmer’s market outside Macallister Hall on Drexel Campus in Philadephia.

The other four shows take place on private farms in which attendance is free but very limited. If you will be in the area and want to attend the following shows, the band recommends RSVP by emailing [email protected] for more details.

The private farm shows include Carlisle, Pa. (Sept. 26), Berkley Springs, W.Va. (Sept. 28), Phoenixville, Pa. (Oct. 2) and Washington, Va. (Oct. 11).

Prior to performing at the local farms, the band will get its hands dirty by “participating in the harvest and preparation of the local bounty.”

William Elliott Whitmore will then join Hoot & Hellmouth on the road as a co-headliner from Oct. 13 through Nov. 21.

The tour supports of Whitmore’s fifth studio album, Animals In The Dark, and Hoots & Hellmouth’s sophomore album, The Holy Open Secret. The albums were released in February and June, respectively.
