Beyoncé's Malaysia Show Will Feature More Clothes

When Beyoncé performs in Malaysia next month she won’t be allowed to wear her asymmetrical black leotard from her “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It)” video as it doesn’t cover her up quite enough – but the good news is that the show will go on.

Female performers in Malaysia are required to wear costumes that cover them up from the shoulders to the knees without any cleavage showing.

The singer was scheduled to perform in the Muslim-majority country two years ago but she canceled the show after protest threats from the opposition Islamic party about her sexy wardrobe. Beyoncé’s talent agency blamed the cancellation on a scheduling conflict.

The Oct. 25 show at Bukit Jalil Indoor Stadium in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, marks the first time Beyoncé has ever performed in the country, according to her Web site.

Sabki Yusof, youth vice head of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, said that although the party doesn’t plan on disrupting Beyoncé’s show, he was going to send a protest note to the government.

“We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion,” Sabki said. “We are against Western sexy performances. We don’t think our people need that.”

He explained that he believes it’s the government’s “responsibility to protect the people of Malaysia” from what he described as immoral Western influences.

Beyoncé is currently touring Australia with upcoming shows in Japan, South Korea, Russia, Egypt, Greece, United Kingdom and Ireland.

Rihanna, Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani have all modified their costumes to show a little less skin when performing in Malaysia.
