If you think this sounds like a cross between the Kevin Costner flick “Waterworld” and Time Life’s Malt Shop Memories Collection, then you’re half right. Time Life is involved, hooking up with Sixthman, the company that brought you theme cruises featuring the likes of bands and artists such as Barenaked Ladies, John Mayer, Sister Hazel and Lyle Lovett.

Who’s on board The Malt Shop Memories Cruise? Lots of stars from the early days of rock n’ roll including Frankie Avalon, Bobby Rydell, Little Anthony & The Imperials, Lesley Gore, , The Platters and Lou Christie, with disc jockey Jerry Blavat – the Geator with the Heator – hosting the cruise and emceeing special events.

But this is more than just a cruise featuring the sounds yesteryear. The voyage also includes sock hops, beach parties, dance contests and more. Kind of like an ocean going “American Bandstand,” but without world’s oldest teenager Dick Clark.

You want details? The five-day, four-night cruise on the 2,000-passenger Carnival Inspiration departs Tampa, Fla., May 13, 2010, and prices begin at $699. For more information, please click here for the Malt Shop Memories Cruise Web site.
