The accident occurred in northern Indiana while the band, whose new album And the Horse You Rode In On… was released about two weeks ago, was on the way to a show in Cincinnati. The van the group was traveling in blew a tire and then rolled several times, eventually coming to rest upside down in the median.

Three members of SYGC, Alison Hinderliter, Jay Santana and Ethan Adelsman, were all released last night from the Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer after being treated for minor injuries. Vocalist/guitarist Elia Einhorn received more severe injuries to his head and neck but is expected to be released tomorrow. Guitarist/vocalist Mary Ralph has a broken pelvis and collar bone and is expected to be moved to a hospital closer to home this weekend.

The most severe injuries were suffered by bassist Mark Yoshizumi, who sustained severe injuries to his head and neck and broke his back in several places, according to a rep for the band. Yoshizumi had to be airlifted to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Ill., and is in serious but stable condition.

Both of the band’s weekend dates have been cancelled. A rep for the group told Pollstar if Einhorn’s injuries aren’t too severe, he and the band will do their best to find a way to get back on their feet for the next leg of their tour which kicks off Oct. 15 at Philadelphia’s North Star Bar.

Unfortunately, like most musicians, the members of SYGC now find themselves facing huge medical bills with no insurance coverage, not to mention the cost of replacing their gear and their van, which was totaled.
