Jackson Still Sells Tickets
Many of yesterday’s buyers were the folks you saw in news reports last week lining up at a Los Angeles movie theater box office as early as three days before tickets went on sale.
Directed by Jackson collaborator Kenny Ortega, “This Is It” is comprised of film shot during the King of Pop’s dress rehearsals at the Forum and the Staples Center in Los Angeles for his planned O2 Arena residency in London. Jackson died on June 25, just a couple of weeks the first London date was to take place.
In addition to the rehearsal footage, “This Is It” also includes behind-the-scenes moments and draws from hundreds of hours of Jackson prepping for the O2 gigs.
“This Is It” debuts nationwide Oct. 28 and will only appear in movie theaters for two weeks. The aforementioned sneak screenings will occur the evening before the debut at the Regal Cinemas Stadium 14 in Los Angeles. When the film officially opens across the country the next day, Regal Cinemas will devote all 14 screens to the concert flick.
But Los Angeles isn’t the only place fans will catch a sneak peek of “This Is It.” According to MTV, New York City, Rio de Janeiro, London, Berlin and Seoul will also debut the film Oct. 27 and have synched their individual show times to begin three hours after the film premieres in Los Angeles at the Nokia Theatre.
