Springsteen 101

Bruce Springsteen has had plenty of accomplishments over his career but this is the first time he’s become the focus of a collegiate symposium.

About 300 professors from as far away as Australia converged on the Jersey shore Sept. 24-27 for “Glory Days: A Bruce Springsteen Symposium.”

The scholarly exploration included topics other than Springsteen – such as psychology, movies, culture, gender and the criminal justice system – but it also included the profs visiting, several times, the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.

The symposium began with a walking tour of Springsteen’s old stomping grounds including his boyhood home in Freehold.

No word on if they hung out in dusty arcades, banging on those pleasure machines.

Virginia Tech and Penn State-Altoona organized the symposium.
