Fiddler Amy Farris Dies

Amy Farris, a fiddler with Dave Alvin & The Guilty Women, died over the weekend of Sept. 26-27, friends and local music blog Austin360.com report.

Farris, an Austin native living in Los Angeles, was preparing for an Oct. 3 set at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival in San Francisco.

Farris’ performance credits include Ray Price, Brian Wilson, Kelly Willis, Bruce Robison and Alejandro Escovedo, according to Austin360.

“My dear sweet friend Amy Farris died over the weekend,” Willis posted to her Twitter account Sept. 30. “Together we weren’t exactly fearless…but we did it anyway. I’m devastated.”

Alvin also confirmed Farris’ death in a Facebook posting.
