Jones Pleads Guilty
It all started at a NYC Louis Vuitton store Dec. 22 as holiday shoppers watched Jones and Jayvon Smith mix it up, resulting in Jones punching Smith in the face.
Of course, Jones’ lawyer, Scott Leemon, said Jones didn’t start the fight.
Leemon didn’t say what caused the fight, but during a February radio interview Ne-Yo said the two “have had drama in the past.”
So why the plea? Leemon says his client pleaded guilty because he didn’t want to risk a probation sentence that might have included travel restrictions if convicted.
So he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor charge and is sentenced to time served – which essentially amounts to the hours he spent in custody after turning himself in last January.
Jones released his latest album – Pray IV Reign – in March and recently starred in an off-Broadway production based on his life – “Hip-Hop Monologues: Inside the Life and Mind of Jim Jones.”
As he left court, Jones, who still faces a civil suit filed by Smith, said he has “just been working on the music and trying to steer clear of any trouble.”
