Scorpio’s Creature Comforts

FKP Scorpio will have eight German festivals when it starts two new ones on the Baltic coast at Weissenhäuser Strand in November.

Company chief Folkert Koopmans is launching two events at a holiday camp, where the ticket price includes overnight accommodation in a chalet or hotel room.

“There’s an audience that has reached an age when it still enjoys festivals, but it wants something more comfortable than camping,” he said, explaining why the German edition of Rolling Stone magazine is the ideal media partner for the opening event Nov. 6-7.

The first Rolling Stone Weekender will have three stages, with capacities of 500, 800 and 2,000, and a lineup that includes The Flaming Lips, Wilco, Editors, Gov’t Mule, Kettcarr, The Soundtrack Of Our Lives and Kashmir.

There will also be a chance to listen to the goofy prank calls and biting political and cultural satire of German entertainer Heinz Strunk, Hollywood film director and author Frank Schaeffer and veteran German promoter Fritz Rau.

The following weekend Weissenhäuser Strand will become “Plage Noire” as The Goths take their turn at a holiday fest to see a lineup that includes Corvus Corax, Fiddler’s Green and Rabenschrey.

Apart from running the annual popular Goth festival M’Era Luna, FKP Scorpio’s other German outdoors include Hurricane, Southside, Highfield, Chiemsee Reggae and Area 4.
