Mullen showed no signs of heart trouble and a doctor told the Los Angeles Times, “Sometimes your number is just up.”

The founder of the late ’70s club brought in an endless supply of punk rockers, creating a West Coast foundation for the genre. In lieu of flowers, Mullen’s family has requested donations to the Musicians Union or MusiCares.
