AMA Noms Announced
Founded by eternal teenager Dick Clark in 1973, this year’s 37th Annual American Music Awards extravaganza takes place at L.A. Live’s Nokia Theatre Sunday, Nov. 22, and ABC will air it live on the East Coast while the rest of the country has to wait for its own 8 p.m. moment. Dick Clark Productions will also stream a pre-show from the red carpet with host Julie Moran welcoming the show’s attendees. Look for that on ABC.com, UStream.com, MyCokeRewards.com and MyCoke.com.
Paula Abdul, Adam Lambert and Snoop Dogg announced the American Music Awards nominees this morning from the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Taylor Swift leads the pack this year with six nominations, while Michael Jackson received five noms and Eminem four. Receiving three nominations each were Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Kings Of Leon and T.I.
The program is also lining up several top names to entertain between awards. Alicia Keys, Black Eyed Peas, Adam Lambert and Jennifer Lopez are among the bands and artists scheduled to perform, with more to be added to the lineup in the weeks to come.
How does one win an American Music Award? First of all, nominees are selected from radio airplay data provided by The Nielsen Company’s Broadcast Data Systems and retail CD sales info tracked by the company’s SoundScan.
But it’s the fans that make the final decisions. Online voting begins today at three sites – ama.abc.com, amavote.com and mycokerewards.com.
Fans can also vote for the T-Mobile Breakthrough Artist Award at ama.abc.com, while T-Mobile customers can text their choices. What’s more, for the first time in the show’s history, fans can determine the final four nominations in the category.
