Friday Fun: Dream Covers

There’s no question we’re in the middle of a full-blown ’80s revival. Current bands who either grew up listening to hits from the ’80s or inherited an older brother or sister’s record collection are reexamining the music from the decade that “killed the radio star” and giving it a fresh coat of paint.

From Miley Cyrus covering Cyndi Lauper’s “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and Mariah Carey revisiting Foreigner’s “I Want To Know What Love Is” to bands like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and La Roux releasing albums that would have been at home on MTV 25 years ago, people are partying like it’s 1984.

Heck, even groups that came out of the era are getting into the act: Witness No Doubt’s covers of Talk Talk’s “It’s My Life” and Adam Ant’s “Stand and Deliver.”

Whether you’re a fan of Pop, New Wave, Heavy Metal, Ska, Punk, Euro Disco, Italo Disco, Acid House or any of the other genres that spawned hits in the ’80s, you’ll agree there are thousands of songs from the decade that deserve another look.
