Arrests Warrants For City Stages Leaders

Jefferson County authorities say arrest warrants have been issued for two organizers of the City Stages music festival on bad-check charges.

Butch Quinn, who heads the district attorney’s worthless check unit, says complaints against the music festival’s president, George McMillan, and its executive director, Denise Koch, have been under investigation for weeks.

City Stages’ nonprofit parent company, the Birmingham Cultural and Heritage Foundation, has filed for Chapter 7 liquidation in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Birmingham.

Quinn says the check complaints came from City Stages vendors, including a security company and performers who appeared at the festival.

McMillan released a statement through his attorneys saying all City Stages debts will be addressed in bankruptcy proceedings.
