Izod And The Rock Might Coexist

The competition for entertainment bookings between Newark’s Prudential Center and the Izod Center in East Rutherford may soon end.

An economic adviser to Gov. Jon Corzine has crafted a plan that would make the Prudential Center the venue for sports events, possibly including home games of the New Jersey Nets NBA team while it awaits a planned move to Brooklyn.

The Izod Center, where the Nets currently play, would focus on concerts and family entertainment events.

The plan is contained in a memo obtained by The Associated Press and written by Jerold Zaro, the head of Corzine’s Office of Economic Growth.

Zaro has met with representatives of the Nets and New Jersey Devils, Newark officials and the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority over the last four months.
