Soul Train Awards Gets High Hilson Ratings

Nominations were announced Oct. 23 for the revived Soul Train Awards expected to take place in Atlanta Nov. 3, and relative newcomer Keri Hilson matched Beyoncé and Maxwell with the most nods at four apiece.

Maxwell was nominated for best male R&B performer and for song, record and album of the year. Beyoncé was nominated for female artist and song, record and album of the year – if not of all time.

Hilson is nominated for best collaboration, record and song of the year, and best new artist. Drake, Jazmine Sullivan, Ryan Leslie and Solange were also nominated in that last category.

Hilson, part of the songwriter/producer collective known as The Clutch, has written songs for acts like Britney Spears and Ludacris but her solo album just came out this year, and she spent much of ’09 on the road supporting Lil’ Wayne.

The show is expected to honor the careers of Chaka Khan, Charlie Wilson, Antonio “L.A.” Reid and Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds. Performers include Toni Braxton, Erykah Badu, Boyz II Men and Ledisi.
