Folk Singer Killed By Coyotes

Taylor Mitchell, a 19-year-old folk singer from Toronto, was attacked by two coyotes in Cape Breton Highlands National Park in Nova Scotia and died at a hospital Oct. 20.

Mitchell, who was touring at the time, was attacked Oct. 19, taken to a hospital and airlifted to Halifax, according to CBC News.

Park officials told the CBC she was walking alone but other hikers managed to scare off the coyotes and call 911.

Officials had killed one of the coyotes at press time and the other had been shot and is presumed dead.

Mitchell, who had just earned a Canadian Folk Music Awards nomination, was scheduled to play a concert later that day. She loved hiking and was taking a break, according to her manager.

Bob Bancroft, a retired biologist, told the CBC coyotes are normally shy and this kind of attack is extremely rare.
