Fire crews arrived at Woody’s at about 1:15 p.m. to find the building fully engulfed and at least part of the roof collapsed at the two-story facility.

No one was in the building at the time of blaze, according to the Evansville Courier & Press.

Evansville Fire Department Chief Keith Jarboe told the Courier & Press the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is assisting in determining what caused the blaze.

“The fact that you had alcohol involved, it’s a bar and the magnitude of this” are why the federal agency is involved, Jarboe said. “It’s going to be a process. They’ve got a little bit deeper pockets to do some things in the investigation.”

Investigator Jesse Storey told the Courier & Press the time of day of the fire and that the building was unoccupied raise questions but wouldn’t use the word “suspicious.”

“I’m not calling it anything yet,” he said. “It’s way too early.”

The venue regularly hosted national acts, although it did not have any upcoming shows listed with Pollstar and had hosted HaleStorm Oct. 28.
