Flamings Lips Going To the Dark Side Of The Moon

The Flaming Lips have lined up big New Year’s Eve plans. To celebrate 2010, the alternative indie rock band is going back to 1973 by treating fans to a performance of Pink Floyd’s concept album “Dark Side of the Moon.”

The Lips posted a concert poster for the show on the band’s website with the caption “2009/2010 New Year’s Eve Freakout.”

The freakout is going down Dec. 31 at Cox Business Service Convention Center in the band’s hometown of Oklahoma City, Okla. “All humans are urged to attend” the show, which begins at midnight and will also feature Stardeath And White Dwarfs.

In October The Flaming Lips announced at a MySpace show Q&A that the band had teamed up with Stardeath and White Dwarfs to re-record Dark Side of the Moon, according to the Los Angeles Times’ Pop & Hiss blog. A Lips spokesman said the album, which includes guest appearances by Henry Rollins and Peaches, will most likely be an iTunes-only release.

Earlier this year the Flaming Lips released Embryonic, the band’s twelfth studio album and first double album.

Tickets are priced at $10 and $20. Click here for the Flaming Lips’ website for more information.
