As avid activists always willing to volunteer for good causes, State Radio band members run their own outreach organization – Calling All Crows – which recently donated $100,00 to Oxfam America’s Darfur Stoves Project.

The band also uses Calling All Crows to organize a series of events called “Pre-Show Action” where fans and band members volunteer their services locally before the evening’s gig. It’s a chance to do some good as well as “lead by example” – a concept frontman Chad Stokes firmly believes in.

Of course, all this local activism is for when the band is touring, which leads us to our next subject – State Radio’s upcoming road trip which begins Jan. 13 in Tucson at Club Congress. Other dates include Jan. 14 in San Diego at House Of Blues; Jan. 15 in Los Angeles at the El Rey and Jan. 16 in San Francisco at The Fillmore.

The schedule also includes stops in Portland, Ore. (Jan. 17), Boulder (Jan. 22), Aspen (Jan. 23), Providence (Jan. 28), Atlanta (Feb. 13), Chicago (Feb. 19) and Cincinnati (Feb. 23). Last stop on the tour is a two nighter in Washington, D.C., at the 9:30 Club Feb. 26-27.

Most, but not all cities will include a “Pre-Show Action” moment. Interested parties should click here for the band’s MySpace page and here for the Calling All Crows Web site.
