Dropkick Murphys To Rock Winter Classic

Music fans hungry for mixing celtic punk with hockey will want to watch the Bridgestone Winter Classic on New Year’s Day as the Boston Bruins face off against the Philadelphia Flyers with music provided by the Dropkick Murphys.

Although it’s called the “Winter Classic,” the annual NHL game played outdoors is still a fledgling tradition. This week’s competition marks the third time for the annual event, which launched on Jan. 1, 2008.

The game takes place at Boston’s Fenway Park, home of baseball’s Red Sox. The Dropkick Murphys, which formed in nearby Quincy, Mass., will perform before the day’s main event, playing their signature song “I’m Shipping Up To Boston.”

“We are absolutely thrilled that Dropkick Murphys are performing at the 2010 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic,” NHL senior VP of Events & Entertainment Don Renzulli said. “As performers and as hockey fans, the Dropkick Murphys bring a new level of excitement to this historic game.”

Wanna watch? Sure you do. NBC is carrying the game, but TV is only one of several media outlets available for your hockey/Dropkick Murphys pleasure. NHL.com will provide digital video coverage and Sirius XM Radio will beam the audio to its subscribers. For more information, please click here for the NHL’s Web site.
