Alkaline Trio’s New ‘Addiction’

Alkaline Trio has a new album, their own label imprint and a new tour. Is this a good year for the Los Angeles punk band or what?

Not only is This Addiction the first album on the band’s own Heart & Skull imprint, but it also marks the band’s debut on parent label Epitaph. Although the album won’t land in stores until Feb. 23, you can get a taste of it right now by visiting ThisAddiction.org where the band is streaming the title track which is also the first single.

Alkaline Trio is also offering This Addiction in different packages, including a standard CD release as well as a limited deluxe CD / DVD edition containing two bonus songs, four acoustic tracks and a full-length concert DVD. A vinyl version of This Addiction will also be available.

There will also be added value for fans choosing to purchase digital downloads of This Addiction, including exclusive items signed by the band and limited collector’s bundles. As with the CD, fans will have two digital choices – a standard download and a deluxe version.

“I think that we wanted to make a punk rock record that we’ve been describing as ‘thinking-man’s punk,’” Alkaline Trio’s Matt Skiba said. “We wanted to do something that’s fun but also interesting and lyrically, something that will be fun for people to read along to and hopefully understand.”

The tour begins in Pomona, Calif., at the Glass House Feb. 16. Then it’s a freeway trip to W. Hollywood and House of Blues for the Feb. 17 gig. Feb. 18 has the band in San Francisco at the Regency Ballroom and Feb. 19 is Portland, Ore., at the Wonder Ballroom.

Other stops include Seattle (Feb. 20), Denver (Feb. 25), Chicago (Feb. 27-28), Pittsburgh (March 5), New York City (March 12) and Atlanta (March 19). The band heads back to W. Hollywood for the tour’s final gig – April 2 at House of Blues.
