Lhasa won the Quebec Felix Award and was named best global artist at the Juno Awards in 1998.

The singer was known for her nomadic childhood, traveling Mexico and North America with her sisters and parents in a school bus that was their home.

She canceled a worldwide tour last year after two May shows in Iceland because of her illness.

She recorded three albums in Spanish, French and English – La Llorana, The Living Road and last year’s Lhasa.

She was working on a fourth studio album, which will not be released, according to a statement.
