Vampire Weekend North American & European Dates

Vampire Weekend is kicking off a major tour this week in support of the band’s new album, proving to critics and fans that the quartet’s hit debut wasn’t a fluke and that the guys have plenty of catchy tunes up their Oxford dress shirt sleeves.

Tomorrow marks the U.S. release of Vampire Weekend’s sophomore album, Contra, as well as the band’s first 2010 gig at Music Box @ Fonda in Los Angeles.

After playing three nights in New York, Jan. 17-19, the indie rock band is off to the U.K. for a tour that stretches from Feb. 3’s show at The Relentless Garage in London through a two-night stand Feb. 16-17 at 02 Academy Brixton in London.

The guys spend the rest of February playing Europe with dates in Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France and Spain.

The North American tour begins March 14 at Edmonton Event Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, and wraps up April 19 at Fox Theater in Oakland, Calif.

Additional dates include In The Venue in Salt Lake City (March 18), Riviera Theatre in Chicago (March 25), Orpheum Theatre in Boston (April 1), DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. (April 3), House of Blues in New Orleans (April 9) and The Marquee in Tempe, Ariz. (April 13).

Contra once again mixed pop, reggae, African rhythms and witty lyrics but also throws in a bit of punk rock and even some Auto-tune. Pick up the record in stores tomorrow or check it out now on the band’s Web site or MySpace page, where it’s streaming in its entirety. “Horchata” is also available as a free download on the band’s site.

Tickets to the spring tour are available now.
