Yamaha Hall Rises Again
Until it was torn down two years ago, Yamaha Hall, located in Tokyo’s Ginza shopping district and built in 1951, was one of Japan’s oldest classical music venues.
But since the 1970s other more modern venues tended to attract the kind of chamber recitals that Yamaha used to present.
But now a new Yamaha Hall with 333 seats is set to open in the same vicinity Feb. 26.
It will be part of a multipurpose space that includes a recital hall and a studio.
The sound system has been specially designed by engineers at Yamaha, Japan’s premier musical instrument maker.
Through the spring the hall will host a special series of opening jazz and classical concerts by the likes of singer-songwriter Akiko Yano and world-famous pianist Hiroko Nakamura.
