Songwriter Bobby Charles Dies
Bobby Charles, 71, who penned hits for Fats Domino, Bill Haley & The Comets and others, died after collapsing in his home in Abbeville, La., Jan. 14.
Charles, whose real name was Robert Charles Guidry, wrote such classics as “Walking To New Orleans,” “See You Later, Alligator,” and “(I Don’t Know Why I Love You) But I Do” and recorded several albums as well.
He was reclusive, yet performed during The Band’s farewell concert, The Last Waltz, before largely disappearing from public view.
