A Few More Things: Rothbury, The Killers, Slayer, MJ’s Dad

The Killers cancel shows, Slayer reschedules gigs, you can forget about going to the festival this summer and Joe Jackson gets no respect. Details after the jump.

No Rothbury in 2010

Promoters Madison House Presents and AEG Live announced today that Rothbury, the multi-day, Fourth of July weekend music festival located in western Michigan, will take the year off.

From RothburyFestival.com:

“During the past three years, all of us involved with ROTHBURY have greatly appreciated the tremendous outpouring of support for the future of the festival. For 2010, we have had to make the tough decision to postpone our efforts. A contributing factor in our decision is that, due to various artists’ recording and touring schedules, we now believe that timing will not allow for us to assemble the cutting edge roster that everyone has come to expect from ROTHBURY. The result for this year is that we are not able to move forward with the integrity and high standards that we demand from ourselves and for the festival.”

Organizers also said they are currently working on making Rothbury 2011 a reality. For more information, click here for the festival’s Web site.

The Killers Kill Pacific Rim Tour

The Killers have flushed their tour of Singapore, China, Philippines and Japan only three days before the first show date.

The band made a short announcement on its Web site, saying the tour was canceled because of “unforeseen circumstances.” As you know, there’s been a lot of that going around lately.

The band also said it will still play Australia as scheduled.

The group was scheduled to begin the Pacific rim tour in Singapore Jan. 24. The next scheduled play date for the band is Feb. 13 in Sydney, Australia.

Slayer Reschedules Europe

Slayer has rescheduled most of the Europe dates the band was forced to postpone because of bass man / singer Tom Araya’s back ailments.

This is the second time the tour has been rescheduled. The band announced last fall it was postponing the run that was scheduled to begin in November. At that time the tour was rescheduled to begin in March.

But fate had other plans, as did Araya’s persistent back problems. During the first week of the new year the band announced the March dates would have to be rescheduled. Now the band says the tour will launch in May in the U.K. First date on the revised schedule is May 26 at O2 Academy in Leeds.

Other stops include London at the HMV Forum June 2-3; Hamburg at Docks Konzerte Disco June 7; Athens at Terra Vibe June 24 and Milan at Tilburg, Netherlands, at 013 Aug. 2-3.

A message on the band’s Web site says the group is still trying to reschedule Canada and U.S. dates that also had to be shelved. Those shows, which were to take place with Megadeth and begin Jan. 18, were nixed earlier this month.

Joe Jackson’s Five Percent Solution

Anyone following all the legal wrangling following the death of Michael Jackson already knows that father Joe is trying to get an allowance from the King of Pop’s estate.

What caught our eye today was a poll conducted by gossip site TMZ. In response to the question of whether the Jackson Family patriarch deserves an allowance, 58,541 people had responded as of 4 p.m. Pacific time this afternoon, with 95 percent saying “No Way” while five percent felt Joe should get a little something.

Yeah, we’re surprised too. After all, five percent? We didn’t know Joe had that many friends.
