Splashy Shed Proposal
The unincorporated community of Gluckstadt, Miss., isn’t known for a lively music scene, but a Dallas developer is trying to change that.
JMJ Development head Tim Barton recently presented plans during a meeting with the local school board for a 15,000-seat amphitheatre and water park on school-district owned land, according to the Clarion Ledger.
“We’ve been working on this project for a year and a half,” Barton said. “We’ve spent considerable time studying the marketplace. This is a great design that can service the needs of the community.
“The location is great. What we’re building, we believe it will be successful. With this economic engine started, the rest of the development will follow.”
However, the board wasn’t necessarily moved by the proposal, questioning Barton about the effects that noise, lights and alcohol sales at the venue would have on surrounding neighborhoods, the paper said.
District Superintendent Mike Kent questioned what would happen if the venue was built and proved unsuccessful.
“Could that park and amphitheater morph into something else?” he said.
If approved, the first phase of the development would reportedly be on track to open by June.
