Forcing Aussie Support
Australian Arts Minister Peter Garrett is planning changes that will require international acts to include Australian acts in their performances.
Under current rules, there is no specific requirement for them to do so.
Garrett, the one-time Midnight Oil singer, plans to introduce the Foreign Music Acts Certification Scheme (FMACS). Any act playing venues 400 capacity or larger must engage a local act before the Immigration Department can issue a temporary Entertainment Visa.
Garrett is asking for comments from the local industry.
Musicians and talent managers are expected to demand that all support acts be named prominently on a tour’s tickets and marketing material.
