Too Many Taylors
The show, starring 16-year-old music newcomer Bright, was scheduled to take place in front of 480 students at St. Margaret Mary’s Catholic Junior School in Knowsley.
But in its Saturday edition, the Liverpool Echo confused the issue by announcing another Taylor would be performing – country star Taylor Swift.
“I have no idea why they thought Taylor Swift would be performing at St Margaret Mary’s when she was in America picking up her Grammys,” Bright’s spokeswoman said according to the BBC, adding that it must have been a “slip of the tongue.”
The spokeswoman also said the Echo wasn’t the only one mixing Taylors and that an announcement over the public address system was made to 40,000 football fans at Liverpool’s match with the Bolton Wanderers at Anfield.
School officials eventually canceled Bright’s performance after fearing the school would be swamped with Swift’s fans.
“We had planned a short concert for the children on Monday 1 February, featuring an unknown singer, Taylor Bright” the school said in a statement.
“Unfortunately, the Liverpool Echo has printed an inaccurate story that pop singer Taylor Swift is coming.
“There will now be no concert and the Liverpool Echo has promised to print an amendment.”
Along with printing a correction, the Echo apologized and made a donation to the school.
