Don’t Blame It On The Rain
In his second lawsuit involving the same aborted US concert tour, a Korean judge found singer Rain blameless for the disputed cancellations.
A local entertainment group, Wellmade STARM, sued the Korean entertainer and his management agency, JYP Entertainment, last March for 4.57 billion won ($3.95 million) in damages.
Wellmade financed Rain’s 2006-07 US tour and claimed he was in breach of contract when he pulled out of 16 concerts.
However, the judge hearing the case ruled that it was “poor preparations by US promoters” that caused the cancellation, according to Yonhap news agency.
Seven months ago, Rain, real name Jung Ji-hoon, settled another lawsuit involving a canceled concert in Honolulu in 2007. In that case, a US court ordered him and JYP to pay more than $8 million for breaching a contract with a Hawaiian promoter.
The settlement was made last June in order to avoid an appeal, though details of the deal were not disclosed.
In that case, the singer argued that the concert stage was not properly constructed and that due to a copyright challenge at the time, he was unable to use his stage name on US soil.
