The occasion is the 10th anniversary of the band’s sophomore album Emotion Is Dead, which the band will celebrate by giving it the start-to-finish treatment on a six-city, three state tour.

“There’s a few songs off of Emotion Is Dead that we’ve never even played live before so I think it’s going to be pretty great to play the whole album in sequence,” said JL frontman Brett Detar.

The tour begins Aug. 20 in New York City at the Highline Ballroom. The other five dates are Aug. 21 in Pittsburgh at Mr. Small’s Theatre; Aug. 22 in Philadelphia at the Trocadero Theatre, Aug. 27 in Pomona, Ca., at the Glass House; Aug. 28 in Los Angeles at the El Rey Theatre and Aug. 29 in San Francisco at The Independent.

Along with playing Emotion Is Dead in its entirety, the band will perform a second set of fan favorites from their other albums.

Why is The Juliana Theory doing these shows in the first place? Although Detar has made it clear that the breakup is still in effect and that the band isn’t “pulling a KISS move,” the frontman also said The Juliana Theory never gave a proper farewell to its fans.

“The thing is, we never played a farewell show,” Detar said. “We posted a goodbye blog and that was it. I think it was pretty unfair to our loyal fans and to us too. Now the five of us get to do what we always should have done and say goodbye properly – to do right by everyone.”
