String Cheese Incident Returns. Sort Of

Jam band pioneers String Cheese Incident, which disbanded in 2007, is set for at least three nights of performance in their home base of Colorado in July, plus hosting a three-day festival in North Plains, Ore.

SCI said goodbye to its fans with four sold-out shows at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in the Denver area in August 2007, but had a return gig at last year’s Rothbury festival. The band is set for Red Rocks July 23-25 and the festival at Horning’s Hideout July 29 to Aug. 1.

It is possible more dates are on the way, but fans and promoters should not anticipate a full-fledged tour. “The plan for 2010 is to just play some special Incidents and see where it goes,” the band’s Keith Moseley told Pollstar.

Band members have spent the last three years developing solo musical projects, from electronica to bluegrass, and involving themselves in charity functions such as Our Future Now. All indications are the band members are just testing the waters at this point.

By 2007, SCI had developed its road chops to the point where it could hold a four-night run at NYC’s Beacon Theatre and a two-nighter at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, Calif., where it headlined shows that also featured STS9, Railroad Earth, Disco Biscuits and Hot Buttered Rum.
