A Band By Any Other Name

While being interviewed on Britain’s XFM Radio, Gallagher said his new group, which includes former Oasis members Gem Archer and Andy Bell, will play live before the year’s over.

“We’ll be on stage this year, mate,” Gallagher told XMF Manchester’s Clint Boon. “Without a doubt. We’re halfway through the record – the demos, that is.”

As to recording an album, Gallagher said it all depends on the producer, although he refused to identify who will helm his new group’s first record.

“We’re in the studio this April to see if this producer works out,” Gallagher said. “If he does, we’ll crack on with the album through June and July.”

Turns out Gallagher not only refused to identify the group’s recording producer, but he also wouldn’t say what he’s calling the new band.

“No, it’s not Oasis,” Gallagher said. “That was a sh*t name anyway. I’m glad to see the back of it. There’s one that we’re digging at the moment, but we’re going to get on with the music and see how it goes. If we haven’t got a better one by then, we’ll go with the one we’re into.”

Oasis came to an abrupt halt last August when right before the band was to perform at Paris’ Rock en Seine festival, younger brother Liam said he wasn’t feeling well and wanted to cancel the gig. That didn’t sit too well with older brother Noel. An argument ensued, resulting in Liam picking up one of Noel’s guitars and smashing it on the floor.

Eventually the event’s promoter went on stage and told the audience that Oasis had just broken up. That same evening Noel posted a message on the band’s Web site saying he had quit the band and that he “could not go on working with Liam a day longer.”
