Drake Steps Center Stage
“The Away From Home Tour” launches April 6 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston and will hit 25 cities from coast to coast, including 15 stops at colleges and universities, before calling it a day in early May.
According to AllHipHop.com, Drake’s campus shows are part of his “Campus Conciousness Tour,” which is aimed at encouraging his college fans to be more environmentally aware. In fact, the rapper has teamed with non-profit environmental group Reverb to “green” the entire tour through the use of biodiesel fuel in his tour bus, as well as the use of biodegradable and recycled products on the road and backstage.
Joining Drake for the trek – with the exception of April 10, April 24 and May 1 – are fellow Canadian rapper K-OS and New York City electrofunksters Francis and The Lights.
Although he’s released four mixtapes and an EP, 2009’s So Far Gone, and been nominated for a number of awards, including two Grammy nods for “Best I Ever Had,” Later is Drake’s first proper studio album.
While no firm release date has been confirmed, MTV.com reported in December that the album would finally see the light of day next month.
