Storm Injures Fairgoers

Heavy winds and rain that struck during the Florida State Fair in Tampa Bay Feb. 5 caused a food vendor tent to collapse, injuring 13 people.

Winds of about 60 mph reportedly tore down Cox’s Food Corral, where fairgoers took refuge and were caught underneath when the 50- by 50-foot tent collapsed, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Tables were reportedly knocked over and the cover of an ATM was also torn off.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Ernie Wargo told the paper that none of the injuries were life-threatening.

Two people were treated for serious injuries and the rest were minor. The fair was back in business at about 5 p.m., the paper said.
