‘Susie-Q’ Songwriter Dies

Early rock musician and songwriter Dale Hawkins has died in Little Rock, Ark., at age 73.

According to North Little Rock Funeral Home, Hawkins died Feb. 13 . His Web site said he suffered with colon cancer in recent years.

Hawkins was a Louisiana native best known for his 1957 hit “Susie-Q.” The song was covered by various artists ) – including the Rolling Stones and Creedence Clearwater Revival. It was a top 20 hit for Creedence Clearwater Revival in 1968.

He was born Delmar Allen Hawkins on Aug. 22, 1936, in Gold Mine, La.
