Cactus Café Closing

The University of Texas at Austin recently announced plans to shut down the Cactus Café, a music venue that has operated on the campus for 30 years.

That, of course, has incited the wrath of music lovers, who are rallying in support of the 225-capacity venue.

Supporters have formed “Friends of the Cactus Café” to keep the club open.

Townes Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and Lyle Lovett all played the venue in their early careers, according to the Texas Observer.

Recent visitors include Joseph Arthur, Asylum Street Preachers and Tim Easton. The university reportedly wants to close the venue as a cost-cutting measure.
