Formed by Sex Pistol John Lydon (Rotten) in 1978, PiL originally included guitarist Keith Levene and bassist Jah Wobble. The current lineup consists of Lu Edmonds on guitar, Scott Firth on bass and drummer Bruce Smith.

Edmonds and Smith joined PiL in 1986, while newcomer Firth hooked up with the band last year.

Of course, any PiL tour announcement wouldn’t be complete without a quote from Lydon himself. Commenting on last December’s U.K. gigs, Lydon said, “I sound like a bag of kittens thrown down the staircase.”

The first North American show for PiL will be the previously announced performance at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival April 16. San Francisco is next as the band plays the Grand Ballroom at the Regency Center April 17.

From the Bay Area the band heads up the coast to Seattle for a show at the Showbox At The Market April 20 followed by a gig in Portland at the Crystal Ballroom April 21.

Other stops include Salt Lake City (April 23), Denver (April 24), Chicago (May 2), Boston (May 4-5), Toronto (May 7), Montreal (May 8) and Pittsburgh (May 14). Last date on the tour is May 18 in New York City at Terminal 5.

More dates are to be announced, including Euro festival shows taking place after the North America run. For more information, click here for the Public Image Ltd. Web site.
