SEL Returns To Showbiz

After a five-year hiatus from showbiz during which it focused on the V8 Supercars circuit, promoter Sports and Entertainment Limited returned in February with the “Motown Event” Australian tour.

The Australian arena tour featured The Four Tops, the Temptations, Mary Wilson of The Supremes, Martha & the Vandellas and The Miracles.

SEL’s Tony Cochrane anticipated a US promoter would mount a tour in North America to celebrate the label’s 50th anniversary.

But, faced with no such event, he cut a licensing deal with Motown’s local distributor Universal and set up the $4 million production. The first date, at a winery in New Zealand, attracted 25,000 fans.
