Supertop Sells For $10

In what has to be the bargain of the century, the Mt. Smart Supertop in Auckland was sold at auction for NZ$10 (US$7).

The 13,000-capacity, permanent canvas tent hosted shows by MC Hammer, Pearl Jam, Guns N’ Roses and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
The buyer, Mike Ransfield, intended to buy light and sound equipment at the auction, but put his hand up when the bidding for the tent was slow.

He has no idea what to do with the 130- by 57-metre tent, but it will cost him $20,000 to remove it from the site.

Previous owner Ray Channon is thought to have bought it for $550,000 in 1991.
