Bassist John Ciambotti Dies

John Ciambotti, a respected session bassist and player for Clover, the Bay Area outfit that found fame as Elvis Costello’s early backing band, died March 24 in Glendale, Calif., of an apparent abdominal aneurysm following surgery.

He was 67.

As a session musician, Ciambotti performed with Lucinda Williams, John Prine, Carlene Carter and others, according to the Los Angeles Times.

In later years, he became a chiropractor who specialized in musicians’ injuries. Among his survivors is a daughter, L.A. singer-songwriter Gia Ciambotti.
